Common paintballing injuries and how to avoid them

paintballing injuries

Paintballing injuries that are more common than you might think

If you’re thinking about trying out the sport of paintball, or you’re a veteran who has tried it once or twice, you should be aware that some common paintball injuries can happen if you’re not careful. There are a few simple things you can do to prevent these injuries from happening so that you can have a fun and safe time out on the paintball field.

Common paintballing injuries include:

Bruises: As with any physical activity, you’re likely to get some bruises if you’re not wearing the correct protective clothing. It’s best to wear long sleeves and pants made specifically for paintballing, as these will help prevent bruises from occurring when you are hit. If you do get a bruise, it’s likely to stay around for a short while, and you will have some significant battle scars to show off!

Ankle injuries: It’s not just projectiles that can cause paintballing injuries! Ankle injuries, including twists and sprains, are prevalent in paintballing and are often unavoidable. When you are running across a terrain, whether to reach a flag or flee the enemy fire, you could just simply trip and injure yourself.

Eye and ear injuries: Both eye and ear injuries can be extremely painful and often involve leaving the game early and having a recuperation period after the event has finished. Severe ear or eye injuries could involve temporary vision or hearing loss, so it’s imperative to wear the proper safety equipment to avoid this at all costs.

Concussion: Being hit in the head with a projectile is not to be taken lightly and could cause bruising, cuts and trauma if you are not wearing a helmet. Luckily, this can be easily avoided by wearing the proper head protection!

What clothing should you wear at a paintballing event?

Now that we have looked at the most common types of paintballing injuries, it’s time to learn how to avoid them! As ankle injuries are common, it’s essential that they are protected whilst you are out on the field. If you get an ankle injury mid-play, the chances are you will have to call time out and leave the game early. To avoid this, opt for boots or high tops that offer good foot and ankle support at all times. Hiking boots are a good choice because of their grip along all types of terrain but make sure they are not too heavy, especially if you are playing for a long time.

Time for clothing! Your main aim whilst paintballing is to be comfortable and protected, so loose fitting clothing covering your arms and legs is the best option. Tracksuit bottoms and long sleeve t-shirts or jumpers will protect your limbs, keep you warm if you’re playing in muddy terrain and leave you free to run, jump, roll and generally get into the paintball action. Don’t forget to take a change of clothes with you if you are likely to get wet or muddy – there is nothing worse than leaving your paintballing venue cold and wet!

Lastly, your head and arms are just as necessary to protect when paintballing. Projectiles travel fast when they leave a marker, and a shot to the hand or head can often put you out of action. Consider taking gloves with you to protect your hands from paintballing injuries. If you are a novice player, you will likely be provided with a helmet and goggles when you get to the venue, but you will probably have your own safety equipment to hand if you are a long-term paintball player. A baseball cap or beanie could also be an excellent addition to your clothing.

Paintballing attire to protect your limbs and face!

Paintball is a popular activity enjoyed by many. It is a great way to spend time with family and friends as well as release some stress after a long day at work. Paintball is a fun activity and can be played by people of all ages. With the right safety equipment, paintball can be a fun activity with minimal risk of injury.

One of the most important pieces of safety equipment you need is paintball goggles to protect your eyes and face. If you are wearing goggles, you are much less likely to sustain eye injuries, and you will be able to play for longer before tiring out. Gloves are also an important addition, and with BGUK leather combat gloves, you get armoured knuckle supports built in to protect your fingers and keep you playing.

Lastly, we recommend you purchase head protection to avoid getting a projectile to the head and wiping yourself out of the game. BattleGear UK has a selection of beanies and baseball caps available to keep you protected and help you stay camouflaged whilst you are playing.

What to consider when purchasing the right projectile

Whether you are considering purchasing a new paintball marker, or you have already got yourself one, you will need to know how to choose the right projectiles that will help you get the best from your marker so you can conquer the field. But how do you know which projectiles are the best for your marker and where do you go to purchase them?

This month, BattleGear UK give you the ultimate guide to choosing the right projectile, including what you need to consider plus some of our own personal favourites. It’s not all about the right colour or how many rounds you can shoot! You will need to consider your marker, the style of play you are adopting and what you want to achieve with your chosen projectile.

What type of paintball marker do you own?

Paintball is a fun sport enjoyed by millions worldwide nowadays, but it’s important to remember that this is considered a competitive sport, so you need the right gear and equipment in order to be a good player! What many players forget when buying their ammunition is that they also need high-quality paintballs in order for them to safely fire their marker.

First Strike

One of the most important things a player looks for in a magfed marker is its ability to maintain pinpoint precision. As an outdoor sport, it’s commonplace to have markers taken out into fields or woods so it’s particularly essential when choosing which marker you play with that you are proud to take it with you anywhere and everywhere! This is why the First Strike range was created; made with the finest materials and by one of the world leaders in performance markers, this brand has been designed for players like you!

Planet Eclipse

Another great paintball marker company is Planet Eclipse. Known for creating some of the best paintball markers in the world, Planet Eclipse really went all out when making their first magfed marker, the EMF100. Its markers shoot both with speed and accuracy. The EMF100, in particular, is highly consistent, reliable, robust and has a great overall design that puts the marker in a good position alongside its competition.

Tippmann

This paintball brand was introduced to the market back in 1986 and has since been known for its high-quality markers. Development of their products typically targets both professional and amateur players, but they also offer budget-friendly models for newcomers. Tippmann paintballs work best with any type of marker, but they are a smart choice for those who are cost-conscious and casual players!

Valken

Valken paintball is based in New Jersey and offers a huge array of paintball products within the industry. Valken keep budgets in mind when designing and creating its products. Alongside their budget-friendly markers, Valken creates a range of spare parts and upgrades to ensure your marker always stays in tip-top condition and doesn’t become outdated on the battlefield.

The right projectiles BattleGear UK recommend for you

5 expectations when you work with a reputable paintball supplier

Finding a reputable paintball supplier

Whether you are an avid paintball player or you are just starting out in the action-packed industry, you will know the importance of finding a reputable paintball supplier you can trust. A team who is knowledgeable and can give you advice, as well as provide brilliant supplies that are of good quality at competitive prices. For those who have been attending paintballing events for some time, we are sure you will have had the unfortunate experience of using less than the best projectiles, or having a marker fall apart in your hands, all because you believed a supplier was reputable and it wasn’t. This is not your fault! With so many paintball suppliers on the market, it can be difficult to find a reputable and trustworthy one among the mix.

BattleGear UK has put together this easy guide for you so you can spot a reputable supplier from a mile off in the future and you are no longer faced with substandard equipment when you are on the playing field. As a reputable paintball supplier, BattleGear UK knows what you should be looking for in your supplier.

Expectations of your trusted paintball supplier

Up to date compliance and legality information

It’s no secret that the paintball industry is heavily governed to deter injury or assault from markers being used outside of a paintballing event. There are several pieces of legislation regarding suitable markers, their build and the projectiles they use that aim to protect others from the harm they could impose. Your paintball supplier should be up to date on all compliance and be able to advise you of the latest legislation in layman’s terms.

The paintball industry is governed closely by the United Kingdom Paintball Sports Federation and those who supply safe and effective paintball equipment can be accredited by the UKPSF if they adhere to all principles. Only use paintball suppliers who are accredited by the UKPSF like BattleGear UK.

Customer satisfaction and quality products are key

The paintball industry is a growing place but still comes under much scrutiny. Paintball suppliers who are serious about keeping the industry in the best light will want to provide the best customer satisfaction with quality products. Failure to do so could lead the industry into more disrepute and give it a bad reputation. Supplying the wrong equipment, or equipment that is faulty could not only endanger the person using it but those around them so it’s imperative that you choose a company that can provide you with high-quality products and great customer service every time you choose to work with them. Check out some of our BattleGear UK testimonials from happy customers!

Knowledge and experience from your paintball supplier

When you work with a reputable paintball supplier like BattleGear UK, you will have peace of mind that the founders of the company are both avid paintball players and this is why BattleGear UK was formed. Paul Strutt, managing director of BattleGear designed the company to show his continued commitment to UK paintball, aimed at providing great quality products and the knowledge and experience that both avid and new paintball players want and need in the industry. Richard Widenbarr, the Creative Director, has been a paintball player for over 10 years and maintains BattleGear to ensure this growing paintball community of passionate people are supported in their sport.

A friendly and professional paintball supplier team

When you come across a niche industry supplier, it can be challenging to find a company that is able to communicate both to long-standing players as well as newcomers. For newcomers to the sport, in particular, it can be a little daunting to approach a paintball supplier with limited knowledge but a keen interest in the sport and can leave people feeling unwelcome or devalued in the sport if they are spoken to in the wrong way or assumed to be unknowledgeable. Find a company that will support you in the same effective way from the beginning of your paintball journey, right through to you being an expert player. Choose a company that is friendly and remembers you, yet is still professional and can give you the information you need in a way that makes sense to you.

Competitive and cost-effective prices for your products

With many paintball products on the market, it can be challenging to know what cost-effective pricing is and whether you are getting the most for your money whilst still getting a quality product. Good quality paintball products are not cheap, so if you have found a seemingly perfect marker for a fraction of the cost you expected to pay, the chances are there will be a catch. Aim to always purchase your equipment, projectiles and accessories from a paintball supplier who offers a satisfaction guarantee and who can show they will offer you the best price – don’t forget, the best price may not always be the cheapest, but you can be assured that you will be purchasing a safe and quality product.
